More than three decades ago, an organization formed to support and promote the art of dance. This non-profit organization continues to uphold that tradition by providing training and performance experience for area dancers. It expands the range and quality of dance concerts to the Siouxland audience through offerings such as Paul Taylor Dancers, Especially Tap, Prairie Wind Dancers, and Jazz Dance South. It provides sponsorship and financial assistance to aspiring young dancers and it exposes these dancers to outside instructors, including Robert Joffrey, Edward Villella, and Jacques d ’Amboise. There is only one organization in the area truly dedicated to making these dreams come true, and it is the Siouxland Civic Dance Association.

Each year the association continues that tradition by giving dancers the opportunity to perform in such timeless classics as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, The Nutcracker, and several smaller dance concerts through its performing company, Ballet Sioux. The association also helps support newer companies: Jazzin’ Co. and Tap Inc.

Since its formation in 1971, the association, as a not-for-profit corporation has been run by dedicated volunteer members of the board of directors in conjunction with the association’s artistic directors. Currently, these hard working individuals are:

Co-Presidents: Linda Jiroux, Patti Baczwaski
Secretary/Treasurer: Hess Roorda

Bridget Agriopoulos, Amy Berntson, Linda Drey, Jo Anne Fox, Sandy Hamman, Melanie Horton, Bruce Miller, Jackie Schmillen, Karen Tracy, Terrie West

Co-Artistic Directors: Shirley Dill and Tracy Bennett
