Ballet Sioux

Ballet Sioux has delivered concert dance to Siouxland since it first produced The Nutcracker in 1971. It was the successor to The Sioux City Civic Dance Company which began performing in 1967. Over the years, Ballet Sioux has given Siouxland area dancers the chance to perform in a wide range of productions from full length ballets to short vignettes and experimental pieces. The company has danced everything from traditional favorites such as Coppelia and SwanLake to the premiers of new works such as The Little Match Girl.

Ballet Sioux dancers are chosen by audition in August each year. Dancers from any school are eligible for membership. To be accepted, the dancer must have had at least one year of pointe training.

Membership varies from year to year from between 25 to 50 dancers divided into two to four companies, based on age and ability.

A regular Ballet Sioux season includes two major productions and one or more minor events.
